This 1988 BMW M5 shows 108,755 miles and has been with the seller for three years. Power is provided by an S38B35 inline-six mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, and the car is one of 1,340 E28 M5s produced for North America. Approximately 5k miles have been added during the seller’s ownership, and maintenance during that period included a replacement of the lower control arms and spark plugs, as well as a radiator flush and annual oil changes. Modifications consist of an aftermarket stereo and exhaust system, clear front turn signals, a front strut bar, and black front kidney grilles. The car is now being offered for sale in Connecticut with a clean Carfax and a clean New York title in the seller’s name.
North American E28 M5s were finished in black, and this example has been fitted with a Supersprint cat-back exhaust. A dozen matching VIN tags are shown in the gallery, as are some chips and other minor paint imperfections. No accidents are listed on the included Carfax report, and the car has reportedly been garaged and has not been driven in inclement weather during the seller’s ownership.
North American-market bumpers are retained, and clear front turn signal lenses have been added. OEM 16” BBS basketweave wheels wear Michelin PS tires all around. An original spare tire and complete toolkit are included, along with the original chrome kidney grilles.
The powered and heated factory sport seats are trimmed in Natural leather. Some wear is noted on the driver’s upholstery.
The 3.5-liter S38B35 inline-six was rated at 256 horsepower for the North American market when new. A front strut bar has been added. An oil change, fluid top-off, and inspection were performed in April 2017, and a replacement of the spark plugs and a radiator flush were completed in 2016. The seller notes that annual oil services have been performed at a BMW specialty shop.
