Bavarian List

Frequently Asked Questions

For Bidders

WHERE DO I REGISTER TO BID OR COMMENT?

You may register to bid on Bavarian List by clicking here and creating a profile. All bidders must keep a valid credit card on file. Once you register, you will be asked to verify your email address. Be sure to watch your spam folder if you don’t see a verification request.

HOW CAN I INSPECT THE CAR BEFORE BIDDING?

To inspect a car prior to bidding, contact the seller to arrange for an inspection. Use the “Message Seller” link in the auction description to get in touch with the seller in order to schedule a time to inspect the vehicle.

CAN I CANCEL MY BID?

We do not cancel bids on the site. Please be very careful when placing your bid.

HOW DO I UPDATE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION?

You can update your credit card information by going to your My Account page. If you have an active bid on the site, you will not be able to update your credit card information until you do not have an active bid on a live auction.

HOW MUCH IS THE BUYERS FEE?

If you win an auction we charge 5% of the final bid price on top of the winning bid, with a minimum fee of $250 up to $5,000 (5% of a $100,000 bid). The fee for sales higher than $100,000 is capped at $5,000.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WIN AN AUCTION?

The 5% buyer’s fee is paid via the buyer’s card on file at auction close. The transaction for the winning bid amount is between the buyer and the seller. At the close of auction, the winning bidder and seller will receive each other’s contact information via email. We recommend that the seller send the buyer a photocopy of the title and a bill of sale prior to the buyer sending payment. For payment, we recommend a wire transfer, and we’d also recommend that bidders considering alternate payment methods contact the seller to discuss prior to bidding. In general, buyers are responsible for shipping, applicable taxes, registration fees, and other costs associated with vehicle ownership.

We suggest a bank wire transfer or bank draft for payments (these methods of payment are verified at the issuing bank and will provide you comfort with the transaction).

WHAT IS AN AUCTION WITH RESERVE?

An auction that has a reserve is one with a minimum selling amount that has been set by the seller.

WHY IS THERE A HOLD ON MY CREDIT CARD?

When bidding, we place a hold on your card for 5% of your initial bid amount with a minimum hold of $250 and maximum of $5000. Should you win the auction, that hold will be converted to a charge. If not, the hold will be released immediately at auction end. It can sometimes take a few days for your bank to release the funds.

For Sellers

HOW DOES SHIPPING WORK?

Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer to arrange and pay for.

HOW LONG DOES AN AUCTION LAST?

Auctions start and end 7 days a week, with regular listings live on the site for 7 days, while special listings could be live on the site between 7 and 21 days.

CAN I CANCEL MY BID?

We do not cancel bids on the site. Please be very careful when placing your bid.

HOW DO RESERVES WORK?

A reserve is the minimum price that a vehicle will sell for. We work with sellers to set reasonable reserves, and avoid vehicles with reserves that are not realistic. Reserve values are not shown on the listing, nor do we announce when reserves have been met (we think that leads to bidding games).

UNABLE TO UPLOAD PHOTOS?

If you are having problems uploading photos in your submission, try starting with 5-10 photos that show the overall condition of the vehicle. In addition, we recommend that photos be 2000 – 3000 pixels on the long side, which usually results in a 1 – 2 MB file size. Photos that are too small or too large might not be able to be uploaded. If accepted, more photos can be added prior to the auction going live.
If you are still having problems, please email us at listings@bavarianlist.com and let us know the specific problem you’re having.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY AUCTION IS OVER?

The transaction for a vehicle won on Bavarian List is between the buyer and the seller. At the close of auction, the winning bidder and seller will receive each other’s contact information via email. We recommend that the seller send the buyer a photocopy of the title and a bill of sale prior to the buyer sending payment.

We suggest a bank wire transfer or bank draft for payments (these methods of payment are verified at the issuing bank and will provide you comfort with the transaction).

CAN I EDIT MY LISTING ONCE IT IS LIVE?

You will have a chance to review and approve your listing before it goes live. Changes after the fact can be misleading or confusing and are therefore not accepted. You can, however, correct or add more information, add more photos or video after the fact. To do so contact your assigned auction specialist to facilitate the updates.

DO I HAVE TO SHIP MY VEHICLE?

Responsibility for shipping rests with the buyer, not the seller. The buyer must make all arrangements and pay all shipping costs. Please be aware that a buyer will frequently not be local so the seller may be tasked for help in meeting the buyer’s shipper and to ensure the car is properly ready for transport etc. We have recommended transport & broker vendors which can be viewed on our resources page here.
